A PARTY

QUESTION : A PARTY 

           Daniel grabbed the huge shiny balloon with 'It's a girl' printed in glittery gold letters across it and rushed out of the house . His mother struggled to get into the car with the huge hamper[大篮子] of baby items that she was holding . Daniel and his parents were on the way to h is niece's first month party.
         When they arrived , the party was already in full swing[高潮] . Daniel's cousin came out to greet them with her baby in her arms . squealing[高声嚷着] in delight , his mother ran up to take a look at the baby.
         After putting down their gifts . Daniel's cousin asked him if he wanted to carry the baby . He smile tentatively[犹豫] . He did not know what to do with the babies . She slid the baby gently into his arms . He peered at her and white spots on her nose . Her eyes were closed and she lay very still in his arms . In fact , she was so still that Daniel wondered if she was all right . He tickled[呵痒] her chin to check . That was the wrong thing to do . She stirred , twisted her body and before he knew it , her tiny mouth had opened and she let out a shrill scream . Seconds later , her face had turned a dark red . she began kicking and her hands were tightened in fists . It was a terrifying sight .
        Luckily , Daniel's cousin rushed over and took her out of his arms . Seeing his flustered[慌张] face , his cousin burst out of laughing and told him that the baby was probably hungry . However , Daniel could not be pacified[平息,抚慰] and he kept apologising for trying to touch her chin . His cousin was in stitches[笑到肚子痛] . Between her peals of laughter , she managed to tell him that it was all right to touch a baby's chin . She reassured him again that he was not the cause of the baby's distress . She invited him to her room to watch her feed the baby . Daniel carried her again when she had finished . This time , the baby made a soft cooing[轻柔低语] noise as he cradled her against his body . When he touched her hand gently , she grabbed his finger with her tiny fingers . 
       There was no birthday cake like the usual birthday . Instead Daniel's cousin gave each family a box of cake with his niece's face on the top . This party was different from the rest , but it was equally enjoyable and exciting .
